Milwaukee Irish Fest's "Blarney" Teddy Bear
Limited Edition Teddy Bear - Inspired by our Late Founder Ed Ward
The Blarney Story
What originated as the seed of an idea for an event to celebrate and promote Irish heritage, in a city known for its German roots, has emerged into a thriving year-round nonprofit organization, called CelticMKE.
Under the direction of Ed Ward, the first Milwaukee Irish Fest premiered in 1981 on a shoestring budget. Volunteers spent months planning the event, incorporating an extensive lineup of musical entertainment and cultural programming. Based on the event's success and overwhelming interest by those in attendance, Milwaukee Irish Fest has since come to be known as the world's largest celebration of Irish music.
Ed Ward passed away in 2019. In remembrance of his vision, his leadership, his infectious personality, and his dedication to the organization, we designed these special, limited edition teddy bears.
The name Blarney ties to both Ed and his brother Chuck Ward, who also was an integral part in the creation of the festival. Ed and Chuck were in an Irish folk band together in the '70s, called Blarney.
Blarney's outfit also has a personal connection to Ed. Often you would find Ed walking around the festival grounds in a Hawaiian shirt. And the t-shirt Blarney wears is inspired by what Ed wore to the very first volunteer meeting in 1981.
We hope you enjoy these bears as much as you enjoy the festival! Take one, or a few, of these bears with you to remember the fond memories made at Milwaukee Irish Fest. Slainte!
